All roads to save Aleppo go through Moscow

Yasser Al-Atrash, Baladi News

Despite all the emotional sit-ins and demonstrations around the world that sympathize with Aleppo, the political outcomes of the anticipated battle on Aleppo's walls have been unraveled before the actual military gains take place.

The Iranian and Russian control over the Syrian conflict is unmistakable. And it spurred numerous commentaries ,analysis and theories from a variety of political experts, trying hard to understand the role of each party in the Syrian scene and what are their goals therein.

Then came “Geneva” talks revealing that only Moscow to maintain control of the Syrian conflict after Obama’s administration handed over  the Syrian file to Russia, and so did the European partners and the powerless “Islamic alliance".

The world is begging Moscow !

Before the fierce battle of Aleppo, Americans and their allies has been keen, at least symbolically, to pose as a key actor and partner in Syria. However, this is not possible anymore as Moscow has stepped in as the only savior of Aleppo to get through the massacre. So the Americans, Europeans and the UN’s Secretary General found themselves not only pleading, but literary begging Russia to at least include it in a truce that may postpone its destruction.

Marc Ayrault, the French foreign minister called on Russia on Monday to mediate Damascus to “stop the airstrikes on Aleppo” and resume the peace process “as soon as possible”.

Secretary of State "John Kerry", declared Monday in Geneva that the civil war in Syria is now ”out of control in many ways”. The Obama administration has completely washed its hands of the Syrian case and it's now standing hopeless against the Russians who are clinging more to al-Assad and his method of running the country.

The united nation is hopeless and the “Islamic Alliance” vanished !

On UN level, UN secretary General, Ban Ki-moon called for truce arrangements to include Aleppo , in the "calm of regime" agreement that was announced lately and included Damascus, eastern Ghotah and Lattakia province.

He called again “for all regional and international concerned parties especially presidents participating in the international community to support Syria  (Russia and USA) and to double their efforts in order to support the Syrian parties put the agreement on the cessation of hostilities in its right path.

On Arab level, Qatar succeeded only in requesting an emergency meeting of Arab League Council at the level of permanent delegates to discuss the situation of Aleppo. The result was only denouncing statements as usual.

The “Islamic alliance” led by Saudi Arabia and Turkey that threatened before to intervene in the battle and change the situation on ground - in declarations made by brigadier general Ahmad al-Assiry, spokesman of the Saudi defense ministry  has vanished with no presence at all even at medial level.

Saudi Arabia along with its allies could not impose their rules in Yemen after months of intervention so they went to settle things with negotiations in Kuwait.

Turkey, burdened with internal troubles and fighting "terror" groups , is trying to exert every effort to host three million refugees and provide aid to them but this is not enough anymore to change the situation on the front lines and end the battles.

Lavrov seems to be the only one that masters the scene, he dictates, orders and threatens. The whole world is heading to Moscow to seek his mercy, so his army would stop destroying what is left of Aleppo!

On the other hand, the equation on the ground is another thing and the world is not placing a bet on it, but it is the Syrian's only bet. Revolutionaries, civilian or military, would not give the lead and destiny of their revolution to an alleged friend or illusive politician. If they have done so, Aleppo and the entire country would have fallen in the hands of the regime years ago. What else would have been the secret to this tremendous steadfastness.
